Position Description

The Manager of Infrastructure Engineering leads a team of highly technical Systems Engineers in the delivery and ongoing operational oversight of FRMS client facing SaaS delivered solutions. Additionally, this position is responsible for leading the development and implementation of SaaS best practices as well as ensuring all environments under the purview of FRMS Hosting Operations meet Fiserv Security and Policy standards.

What does a Manager of Infrastructure Engineering do?

  • Manages and provides technical and business direction for a team of Infrastructure/System Engineers responsible for delivering end-to-end solutions.

  • Builds relationships and works closely with our internal customers, as well as occasionally with external customers, to ensure solutions are technically sound, issues are identified and resolved, and projects are delivered within budget and on-time.

  • Resolves challenges by analyzing issues, assisting the team to determine the most appropriate course of action, providing direction and, when necessary, reallocating resources.

  • Works with the Enterprise Portfolio Management team to ensure that each of our projects has the appropriate amount of budget and resource allocation.

  • Communicates status of activities with the team, peers, management, internal and external customers.

  • Manage team personnel issues, including hiring, motivating, career development/enrichment, performance and salary review, disciplinary actions, terminations, etc.

  • Improve enterprise quality and availability of engineered solutions. Continue to simplify, review, deploy and further improve: Automation of alerting, monitoring, maintenance, backup/recovery and business continuity/disaster recovery processes.

  • Proven ability to communicate the functionality and value for the platforms to business unit architects and product managers

  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with business partners and departments

  • Manage issue problem resolution in coordination with internal teams or external vendors

  • Improve Engineering team productivity and execution with continued deployment of IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL) common processes, interfaces, tools and automation

  • Provide regular status updates to multiple levels of management and staff

  • Work with other leaders to create, measure, and report progress towards established key performance metrics

  • Experience developing and managing vendor relationships

Basic qualifications for consideration:

  • 7+ years of relevant work experience including 3+ years of prior management, supervisory or team leader experience

  • 5+ years of experience in systems architecture, engineering, or operational domains

  • Hands on technical manager

  • Excellent technical, functional, verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to travel up to 5%

Preferred qualifications for consideration:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or Business or equivalent degree is desirable

  • Designing and implementing enterprise-class infrastructure solutions based on Microsoft technologies (Windows Server, SQL Server, System Center)

  • Experience designing and implementing data delivery solutions that are Highly Availability and support Disaster Recovery

  • Working knowledge of networking protocols and components including TCP/IP, DNS, NFS

  • Experience working on a matrix team consisting of a variety of Infrastructure Engineering groups, as well as Development groups and Client Relationship groups

  • Willingness and capability of quickly learning new technologies required for accomplishing project goals

  • Willingness and ability to produce high quality operational documentation, including Visio diagrams, high-level descriptions of the environment, as well as detailed instructions outlining the steps required to repeat the build-out and configuration of the infrastructure.

  • Strong customer service skills with high level of professionalism, and ability to work with complex situations.

  • Works well in a team environment and has proven team management ability

  • Strong interpersonal communication skills and customer-support focused attitude

  • Proven ability to provide leadership across multiple sites and geographic areas

  • Must be flexible and have the ability to simultaneously manage multiple projects or tasks

  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment

  • Keen attention to detail
