Position Description

The Principal Solutions Architect partners with internal product groups and engineering teams to develop technical designs for top priority projects, while advocating adherence to enterprise standards through collaboration with multiple Architecture and Engineering teams. This position requires a high degree of collaboration with Development, Product, Engineering, and Architecture teams to provide the right level of agility within a defined delivery process. The ideal candidate will exhibit strong leadership skills, will be forward thinking, will be self-motivated, and will be able to work effectively in a diverse, highly talented team, continuously striving for excellence.

*What does a great Principal Solutions Architect do? *

  • Partner with internal organizations to understand the strategic direction of their business and how the professional services organization supports that direction.

  • Builds relationships and works closely with our internal customers, as well as occasionally with external customers, to ensure solutions are technically sound, issues are identified and resolved, and projects are delivered within budget and on-time.

  • Align professional services solution architecture with Fiserv’s strategic direction by collaborating with other architecture teams and technology leaders.

  • Provide technical oversight and direction for top projects as identified by the leadership team.

  • Collaborate with Technical Leadership, Product Groups, and Engineers to develop technical specifications for top priority projects.

  • Act as team lead or individual contributor to functional groups by distributing and completing tasks on time.

  • Resolves challenges by analyzing issues, assisting the team to determine the most appropriate course of action, providing direction and, when necessary, reallocating resources.

  • Provide the leadership and expertise to manage and run large projects.

  • Advocate technical architecture and build consensus for the adoption of new technologies across multiple functional teams.

*Basic Qualifications for Consideration: *

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related technical field and/or 10+ years of relevant work experience.

  • 10+ years of relevant work experience delivering enterprise customer facing solutions.

  • Previous Infrastructure/System Engineering experience in heterogeneous environments.

  • 6+ years of relevant work experience designing and building enterprise class distributed systems.

  • 6+ years of relevant work experience in the financial services industry or other highly regulated industries.

  • 6+ years of indirect or direct technical leadership

  • Ability to travel up to 20%

Additional Skills/Knowledge:

  • Master’s Degree in Computer Science or related technical field.

  • Architect level certifications for one or more technical disciplines (Windows, Linux, Storage, Networking, or Security).

  • Experience with TOGAF or other architecture frameworks.

  • Expert level technical skill in one or more technology disciplines (Windows, Linux, Storage, Networking, or Security).

  • Recent experience leading the technical design of high transaction volume distributed systems or other complex projects.

  • Recent experience working in a strong-matrix organization with project teams and multiple lines of reporting and accountability..

  • Experience leading and communicating with highly technical engineers and senior leadership.

  • Experience effectively managing multiple technology projects simultaneously.

  • Ability to move projects forward, prioritize tasks and resolve project issues with minimum supervision.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • High organizational skills.

  • Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines.

  • Ability to work efficiently and productively without direction or guidance.

  • Capable of exercising extreme discretion and independent judgment.

  • Ability to handle extremely confidential information in a professional manner.

  • Ability to communicate, both verbally and in writing, with a high level of confidence.

  • Experience designing and implementing high transaction volume distributed systems.
