What does a great Senior Card Processing Specialist do?

The world of payments is constantly changing and as consumers expectations increase about their digital interactions, so too must payment providers change to keep up with the landscape. As we continue to evolve our strategies and products, a key component is operational excellence. This role will be pivotal in establishing best-in-class operational practices and routines. We are looking for a professional with deep knowledge of U.S. payment systems with the ability to communicate directly with payment networks, senior leadership at Fiserv, and development in order to research and resolve operational issues. Ultimately, this person will be our conduit into next-generation payments practices.

  • Monitor, research, and resolve issues with all payment networks (Visa, MasterCard, EWS, ACH, TCH) concerning bill pay, P2P, A2A, Disbursements transactions. Rules Management.

  • Have a clear understanding of and our adherence to network rules (Card, EWS, TCH) specifically targeting real-time payments.

  • Conduct regular audits of our adherence to the rules to ensure that Fiserv’s responses are within the network’s guidelines.

  • Gather data and report discrepancies with a focus on resolving issues and determining Fiserv’s position on adherence.

  • Establish Fiserv’s position on network rules, and resolve disputes directly with the networks. Responsible for the daily management of incidents including leading the identification of issues, the resolution with development, and the communications between Fiserv and the payment network representatives.

  • Act as the escalation point of contact for operational issues coming into Fiserv, and operations-related issues to be discussed with networks as both a relationship manager and a problem-solver.

  • Represent Fiserv at network forums to monitor the issues within the network and report back the information to product and operational leaders to discuss enhancements, changes necessary to support Fiserv’s overall position on the pertinent issues, and communicate that position back to the networks.

  • Establish regular cadence of touch points with Networks to proactively discuss issues, upcoming enhancements and other information necessary to create a better relationship.

Basic Qualifications for the position:

Education: BS in a technical or business field or equivalent experience

  • 8+ years of experience with card processing

  • Card experience is a must

  • Ability to distill high level business requirements into detailed features for complex payment systems

  • Deep operational understanding and working knowledge of card networks (debit, credit and prepaid)—processing, participants, operational flows, exceptions, and rules.

  • Understand of FI behavior with card networks—How issuers and issuer processors work within the network environment especially with prepaid cards.

  • Operational experience at big issuer (FI)) including the knowledge of how large issuers or small issuers operate within the networks.

  • Ability to work with Visa/MC and prepaid program providers to determine the appropriate level of engagement between Fiserv operations and products and the network participants.

  • Seasoned professional able to handle a large workload and multiple complex issues on a variety of topics.

  • Ability to proactively identify potential issues and suggest alternatives to ultimately guide Fiserv to resolving the issues.

Preferred skills/experiences/education

  • Understanding of Zelle and TCH a plus.

  • Ability to effectively communicate complex problems and solutions to senior leaders within the networks and at Fiserv.

  • Ability to effectively understand complex technical issues and create requirements necessary for development to change the systems to adhere to the issues.

  • Strong written skills including process flows

  • Ability to create and manage a list of issues from identification to resolution

  • Strong verbal skills in order to explain complex problems to network rep
