What does a great Senior Desktop Virtualization Engineer do?

As a Senior Desktop Virtualization Engineer you will work in a large-scale enterprise environment supporting 15,000+ systems. You will be part of an Engineering team and will assist in the design, implementation and support of a corporate VMWare Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI).

  • Deploy, manage and configure a VMWare Horizon 7 VDI environment

  • Deploy, manage and configure Windows 7 and Windows 10 in a VDI environment

  • Package and deploy desktop applications in a VDI environment

  • Patch virtual desktops using automated tools

  • Troubleshoot technical issues with VMWare VDI environment

  • Design, create, and manage User Environment Manager

  • Design, create, and manage App Volumes

  • Create operational support documents for various tasks related to Virtual Desktop management support

  • Develop and document standards related to package creation, OS deployment, patching, infrastructure

  • Provide technical documentation to project and operations teams as part of project deliverables

  • Train operational team to perform day-to-day VDI desktop management tasks

Basic qualifications for consideration:

  • Experience deploying, configuring and managing Windows 7 and Windows 10

  • Must have 5+ years of experience engineering and administering Windows Operating Systems

  • Proven experience working with VMWare Horizon 7 VDI

  • Experience with System Center Configuration Manager 2012 – Current version

  • Experience troubleshooting application deployment errors

  • Experience with Group Policy Objects

  • Working knowledge of Visual Basic Scripting and PowerShell

  • Working knowledge of Windows 7 - Windows 10 and Server 2012 – Server 2016

Preferred qualifications for consideration:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science preferred

  • Strong understanding of VMWare virtualization solutions using ESX 6.5 and newer

  • Willingness and ability to produce high quality operational documentation including detailed instructions outlining the steps required to perform operational tasks needed to management desktops in a VDI environment

  • Willingness and capability of quickly learning new technologies required for accomplishing project goals

  • Strong customer service skills with high level of professionalism, and ability to work with complex situations

  • Experience with application virtualization technologies such as Microsoft Application Virtualization, VMWare ThinApp or AdminStudio
